Maya Albanese’s Award-Winning Short Film Freeze Debuts on Omeleto

After making waves on the festival circuit, Maya Albanese’s darkly funny and deeply relatable short film Freeze is now available to stream for free on Omeleto.

Repped by The Visionaries, Maya wrote and directed the short, which had its premiere at SeriesFest, taking home awards for Best Short and Best Actress, going on to screen at over 45 festivals.

Freeze follows Joy, a woman nearing 35 whose seemingly perfect life starts to unravel. Losing her boyfriend and her vision for the future, she gains mounting pressure from everyone around her – friends, family, coworkers – about her ticking biological clock.

Faced with freezing her eggs, Joy knows everyone thinks she should have a baby - but does she want one?

As Joy’s inner turmoil intensifies, so does the world around her. Maya weaves in surreal moments of comedy and horror to reflect the very real expectations placed on women.

A bold, biting tragicomedy that balances emotional honesty with a distinct artistic edge, Freeze is a powerful take on modern womanhood that probes today’s climate, and hits hard doing so.

Maya had this to say about the project:

‘I'm really proud of this film. I’ve heard from so many people who found catharsis, laughter, and solidarity in the story.’
