Charlotte Evans is a Sydney-based filmmaker and editor with over 16 years of experience in the industry. She trained under esteemed British editor Rick Waller, and her strong foundation in editing continues to inform her instinctive, emotionally resonant approach to storytelling. Known for her collaborative spirit, Charlotte is a natural team player whose experience is deeply rooted in working with real people. This background gives her a unique ability to bring out natural, honest performances and make people feel truly at ease in front of the camera. With a deep emotional intelligence and intuitive understanding of how people work and what they’re feeling, her work carries a rare authenticity. For Charlotte, storytelling is a privilege—not a right—and she approaches every project with a strong sense of social responsibility and respect for the people whose lives she documents.

She is drawn to those with extraordinary life stories—individuals who challenge societal conventions—and her films often blend poetic realism with surrealist flourishes. With a background in music videos, she’s known for pushing the boundaries of traditional narrative, creating work that’s visually bold and emotionally charged.

Charlotte has directed award-winning music videos for artists including Kimbra, Aldous Harding, Benee, The DMA’s, and Marlon Williams. In 2018, she directed Give Kate A Voice, a short film commemorating 125 years of women’s suffrage in New Zealand, which won multiple awards. Her short documentary OK Chlöe (2020), an intimate portrait of Green MP Chlöe Swarbrick, was acquired by The New Yorker Documentary and featured on The Guardian, Short of the Week, and at festivals worldwide. Building on its success, Charlotte is now in post-production on the feature-length follow-up, The Weight of Change, which she directed, shot, and edited. Spanning nearly a decade, the film has already secured a local broadcast presale and received international sales interest ahead of its 2025 premiere.

In 2024, her second documentary Nowhere To Be—a global collaboration capturing the lives of cinematographers during the COVID-19 lockdown—premiered at Sydney’s Vivid Festival. Charlotte is currently in development on her debut narrative feature We’re Just Fine and three original television series. With a powerful visual style and a commitment to human-centred storytelling, her work continues to reflect a deep respect for the complexity, humour, and vulnerability of real life.
